Breána provides mental health support and care for women throughout the life course. As clients develop into new phases, roles and identities, areas of exploration may include family planning, fertility, sexuality, mothering, caretaking, relationship building, career building, psycho-spiritual development and stress management.
Breana’s background in depth and liberation psychology influences her approach addressing women’s mental health issues. She acknowledges the influence of modern Western American culture and its tendency to separate and elevate logic over emotions and mind over body. This schism has had an impact on traditional psychology and its approach to alleviating psychological stress, particularly for women. As an epistemic shift, Breana approaches women’s mental health and psychology with an eye toward reintegrating emotional and bodily intelligence in achieving conscious well-being. She references concepts like intuition, inner knowing”, and guidance in her psychotherapeutic practice, notions that have been seen as “taboo” by traditional psychology but are important to women’s realities and mental health. Breana’s therapeutic work with women often evolves helping clients reclaim and reengage an authentic relationship with their emotions through the building of body-mindful awareness skills. Therefore, Breana may share, encourage, or co-create interventions with clients to help them explore body and movement-based practices in and outside of therapeutic sessions.
Breána ’s scope of practice interests has expanded into women’s self-care and mental health hygiene, recovery from traumatic relationships and burn out syndrome and imposter phenomena among high achieving women. Breana applies intersectional trauma-informed frameworks to women’s related issues, that may be influenced by racial, gender or sex-based harm, discrimination or oppression. She views herself as a co-experiencer of modern-day women’s realities and issues and acknowledges she is equally impacted by the sex and gender discrimination in
health, wealth and social well-being. She encourages women to initiate new conversations that challenge long held notions and expectations for womanhood.
